Imperial Airways Brochure "Switzerland by Lunch Time in Perfect Comfort," 1936.  Designed by Lee-Elliott. Unframed Vintage Travel Poster

Imperial Airlines was the pre-World War II British Empire long-haul carrier. It mostly served the British Empire from the Atlantic to the Pacific. Founded in 1924, on the outbreak of World War II in 1939, Imperial Airways was taken over by the government and merged with British Airways to form British Oversees Airways Corporation (BOAC).

BOAC was one of the predecessors of British Airways which was created in 1974 by an Act of Parliament merging BOAC and British European Airways (BEA) to create British Airways.

Theyre Lee-Elliott was a British artist who did much of the branding, "Speedbird" logo and design work for Imperial Airways in the 1930s. His large body of work and influence on U.K. design should have brought more fame to Lee-Elliott.
